Red Deer with record 683 active COVID-19 cases

Red Deer’s record COVID-19 case count continues to climb higher.

On Monday, Alberta Health reported 75 new cases of coronavirus in the city, bringing the total number of cases identified in the community since the start of the pandemic to 4,076.

Active cases rose by 49, from 634 on Sunday, to 683 on Monday, again, setting another new record.

Recoveries rose by 26, to 3,357.

The total number of deaths in Red Deer due to the virus remains at 36.

Provincially, 1,495 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Monday. That’s out of 14,848 tests for a positivity rate of about 10.1 per cent.

Active cases in the province sit at 20,610, up 474 from Sunday.

1,542 new variant cases of concern were also identified, bringing the total number of active variant cases in the province to 13,187 or 64 per cent of all active cases.

616 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 22 from Sunday, which includes 145 in ICUs, up five.

There have been seven additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours.

The Central Zone has 2,341 active cases as of Monday, a one-day increase of 176. There are 57 hospitalizations, up three, and seven people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, steady from Sunday. The zone has had 132 deaths as a result of COVID-19, with one reported on Monday.

Elsewhere across the province, there are 8,491 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 5,850 in the Edmonton Zone, 2,883 in the North Zone, 983 in the South Zone, and 62 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.
