TANAS offering education ahead of Transgender Day of Visibility

Mar 14, 2021 | 11:30 AM

Ahead of the International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31, Red Deer-based Trans and Non-Binary Aid Society (TANAS) is hoping to raise awareness in the community of issues gender-diverse people face.

During the month of March, TANAS will be posting on its social media platforms about books, movies, TV shows and documentaries which showcase gender-diverse individuals.

Each Sunday, interviews with gender-diverse individuals from central Alberta will also be shared.

You can find these on TANAS’s Facebook page and Instagram.

Sidewalk and window art is also happening during March at Junktiques in Downtown Red Deer. At Junktiques, all Pride merchandise is 20 per cent off, with proceeds from the sale of small Transgender flags going back to TANAS.

Free pronoun pins are also available at the door.

TANAS was formed in 2016 and is working to strengthen the community through support, awareness and education about LGBTQ2S+ people.

The first Transgender Day of Visibility was held in 2009.
