Sunterra Market opens Tuesday at Bower Place

Mar 12, 2021 | 11:59 AM

This Tuesday, March 16, Sunterra Market is opening its first Red Deer location—a new 20,000 square foot grocery store, café and bakery inside Bower Place shopping centre.

The new grocer plans is introducing itself to Red Deer by gifting more than 37,000 households in the city a complimentary family-sized meal that includes Sunterra Market-Made fresh casarecce pasta and Pomodoro sauce paired with an artisan sourdough loaf and salted butter.

To redeem, Red Deer residents simply bring the offer they receive in their mail to Sunterra Market Bower Place. The offer will be delivered to Red Deer mailboxes over a period of time starting in late March to be mindful of limiting lineups in-store.

The offer is billed as the first of its kind from any grocer in Red Deer.

“This gift is our way of saying thank you to Red Deer for welcoming the Sunterra Market family,” says Sunterra Market President Glen Price. “The past twelve months have been particularly challenging for many families, and providing a comforting meal is the best way to show our investment into Red Deer and introduce ourselves as a neighbour who truly cares about the communities where we do business.”

Bower Place will be Sunterra Market’s first location outside of Calgary and Edmonton.

Shoppers are promised hand-picked produce, farm-fresh meats from Sunterra’s own Alberta-based farms, market-baked goods, chef-prepared grab ‘n’ go meals, meal kits, and a robust roster of products from local producers like Gull Valley Greenhouses, Sylvan Star Cheese and Bles-Wold Yogurt.

There’s also a juice, smoothie and salad bar as well as a European-style café at the market. The grocer will also offer catering services, home grocery delivery and curbside pickup.

“Sunterra’s story began on my parents’ farm in Acme, Alberta about 100km southeast of Red Deer,” explains Price. “After more than 50 years in farming and 30 years in retail in Alberta, we saw Red Deer as a perfect bridge between the two cities—an agricultural community who would understand and appreciate our focus on fresh, local and high-quality ingredients.”
