no cupcakes, no problem

Red Deer girl has now helped raise over $32,000 for humane society

Jayda Monilaws has done it again.

When the pandemic forced her to forego her annual February tradition of selling cupcakes to raise funds for the Central Alberta Humane Society, the 12-year-old Red Deerian went in a different direction.

She encouraged citizens to supply the society with some of it’s most sought after items, or with direct monetary donations.

The result was $4,355 raised to bring Jayda’s eight-year total in support of the Central Alberta Humane Society to more than $32,000.

““I am just really excited that we raised so much money for the animals,” she said.

“I was shocked because we weren’t able to even sell cupcakes this year, so the total was unexpected. I am really hoping I can do my cupcake sale next year, and raise even more money for all the deserving animals.”

In a random draw, one of the generous residents who made a monetary donation to the humane society came away with a dozen of Jayda’s legendary cupcakes.

“I’m also so happy for the winner of the cupcakes because she is a deserving nurse who works the front lines. I know she will share with other deserving medical staff,” Monilaws shared.

“I just want to say thank you again for everybody who donated food, treats, blankets and toys for the animals as well as the amazing $4,355.”
