Tigers erase three goal deficit, beat Rebels 5-4 in overtime
Things were looking quite good for the Red Deer Rebels in the third period of their long-awaited opening game of the new WHL season. The Rebels had a three-goal third period lead and seemed well on their way to a win over the Medicine Hat Tigers.
But the Tigers would end up kings on the night, staging a furious third comeback before stunning the Rebels with a 5-4 overtime win Friday night at the Westerner Park Centrium.
Nick McCarry opened the scoring on the night for Medicine Hat when he beat Rebels goalie Ethan Anders 4:20 into the first period.
Jayden Grubbe tied it for the Rebels with a power play tally just over three minutes later, showing great co-ordination with a spin move near the Tigers goalmouth before tucking the puck behind Tigers goalie Garin Bjorklund.
