Injuries avoided thanks to working smoke alarms at Penhold home

No one was injured after fire broke out at a home in Penhold last weekend.

It was at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday when Penhold Volunteer Fire Department crews were called out to a reported structure fire on Kenron Place.

“We arrived on scene to find the occupants evacuated and sitting in a vehicle. I took command and did a walk around survey of the house while Engine 1 crews set up. As firefighters entered the building, they discovered a hover board was on fire,” said Penhold Fire Lieutenant Max Johnston.

“The occupants did a great job, one heard the smoke alarm and woke everyone up. They called 911 and poured some water on the hover board and evacuated to wait for us to arrive,” said Penhold Fire Chief Jim Pendergast.
