Trial set for Lacombe County man charged in Rimbey shooting

Jan 23, 2021 | 1:49 PM

A trial has been scheduled this spring for a Lacombe County man charged in a Rimbey shooting last summer.

Jade John Edward Slofstra, 32, will go to trial in Rimbey provincial court on Apr. 21. The trial date was set this week following a preliminary hearing in Wetaskiwin court on Wednesday.

Slofstra faces counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and breach of recognizance in the July 5, 2020 incident.

That’s when RCMP responded to a request for help from EMS after a female witness called 911 in relation to a shooting at a rural property in Rimbey.

Mounties say the shooting occurred after a brief altercation that had escalated between two males. The victim was able to drive away from the location of the shooting, but was later air-lifted to hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The male suspect turned himself into police the next day.

RCMP described the shooting as an isolated incident.
