Anger, disappointment shared with “#AlohaAllard” sign outside Grande Prairie MLA’s office

GRANDE PRAIRIE – Residents are sharing their frustration and disappointment with Grande Prairie MLA and Minister of Municipal Affairs Tracy Allard for her decision to travel to Hawaii over the holidays, despite advisories from both the provincial and federal government to avoid non-essential travel outside the country over the holidays.

A new sign reading “Welcome Home #AlohaAllard” was erected in front of Allard’s constituency office along Westside Drive in Grande Prairie some time on Sunday morning.

The sign was accompanied by Christmas trees, Hawaiian leis and greeting cards and letters from residents venting their anger about the trip that came even after the province brought in tougher public health measures on December 13 that included a ban on all indoor and outdoor social gatherings.

“My family gave up a number of long standing traditions this year, including the chance to make new ones,” reads one of the cards, signed by an Amy.

“Because it was the right thing to do.”

Allard, who has since apologized for the tropical vacation, called it a “lapse in judgement” for deciding to go ahead with what she coined as a family tradition over the last 17 years.

It has since been revealed that five UCP MLAs, including Red Deer-South MLA Jason Stephan, and three government staffers travelled out of country during the holidays.
