Premier Jason Kenney will be joining Dr. Deena Hinshaw for today’s update on the COVID-19 situation in Alberta.

It’s expected that the premier will be sharing details of Alberta’s plan for procuring and distributing COVID-19 vaccines once they become available.

A news conference is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. You can watch it here once it begins.

Alberta Health is anticipating to receive around 685,000 of the initial doses from Pfizer, who had its vaccine greenlighted for emergency use by the United Kingdom on Wednesday.

This past Sunday, Kenney said his government has every intention of making sure COVID-19 vaccines can be made widely available as soon as they are ready, but would not be made mandatory in the province.

Alberta announced another 1,307 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and there are now 16,628 active cases in the province.
