Local podcaster celebrates big milestone

Dec 1, 2020 | 10:17 AM

A local podcaster who’s tried to bring people closer together through his show is celebrating 100 episodes.

Mike Johnson moved from England to Canada in 2012, and lives in Red Deer.

His show, Teawithmike, while sharing interesting factoids about tea, has aimed to teach people new things they can apply in their own life, he describes.

“I’ve always enjoyed people, and theatre and entertainment, so this has been my way of sharing my strengths with the world,” Johnson says. “I hope that by being a part of the Teawithmike community, you’ll see all the people who share similar interests to you and through the mutual interest of the show, you’ll be able to start a conversation with others who like you have an appreciation for storytelling, community, conversation and collaboration.”

Johnson has welcomed musicians, influencers and community leaders, younger and older, since launching the program in 2019. He estimates the show’s reached 45 countries with guests from England, Canada, USA and France.

Hosting Teawithmike during the COVID-era has also been enlightening, he agrees.

While he hesitates to pick a favourite guest, he admits those he’s spoken with have left him laughing, crying, smiling, inspired and with goosebumps.

“I’ve learned that everyone has a story to tell. No two people on Earth have the same story as we are all different,” he says. “There are so many great things happening both locally and on a global scale and, and it’s my goal with the Teawithmike show to create a platform for people to step out and tell their story.”

He also isn’t yet revealing the guest for his 100th episode, but shares that show is set to drop on Dec. 5.
