Red Deer down three to 155 active COVID-19 cases

Alberta announced another 1,227 cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

That’s out of 16,284 tests completed over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 7.5 per cent.

There are now 14,217 active cases in the province, an increase of 165.

405 people are in hospital, an increase of 22, including 86 in intensive care, an increase of two.

Another nine deaths from COVID-19 were reported to bring Alberta’s total to 519.

Red Deer has 155 active cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, a decrease of three. There have now been 320 recovered cases, an increase of 16, as the total number of cases attributed to the city rose by 13 to 475.

Red Deer County has 55 active cases as of Friday, an increase of two, while Sylvan Lake added also added two to sit with 43 active cases.

Lacombe County has 36 active cases, an increase of five, while Lacombe has 21, a decrease of two.

Clearwater County (Rocky Mtn. House) added two more active cases for a total of 16.

Ponoka County dropped five active cases to sit with 218.

Mountain View County has 13 active cases, an increase of two, Olds holds steady with 17, and Kneehill County remains with 14. Starland County has four and the County of Stettler has three.

There are now 950 active cases in the Central zone with 25 hospitalizations, including five in intensive care. The zone has also recorded an additional death from COVID-19 – a man in his 80s linked to an outbreak at the Rosetta Lodge in Camrose – for a total of 15.

Outbreaks in effect for the Central zone as of Friday include: Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury in Ponoka, Revera Aspen Ridge in Red Deer, Avenue Living Communities office in Red Deer, Olymel in Red Deer, Pure Fitness in Red Deer and a private gathering in Ponoka.

When it comes to local schools there are outbreaks listed for Hunting Hills High School and Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School (both under ‘Watch’ status for having five or more cases where disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school) and Central Middle School in Red Deer, as well as H.J. Cody High School in Sylvan Lake ( also on ‘Watch’ status).
