Town reinvents ‘Light Up Blackfalds’ event due to COVID-19

Nov 21, 2020 | 3:25 PM

Town officials in Blackfalds are going all out to light up the holiday season for local residents.

Due to COVID-19, the traditional Light Up Blackfalds event isn’t able to happen as it has for the last 14 years. This year, there will be a light and music show nightly starting Nov. 20.

“I’m proud to announce that the show will run from November 20 to January 7. Every year our staff does a wonderful job on the park, and having our own Clark Griswold [Shaun Knowles] on the team sure makes a difference, as you can see every year,” said Community Services Director Sean Barnes. “If you’re planning to come out, please make sure to social distance as best you can, wear a mask if you cannot, and enjoy the spirit of Tayles Park for your Christmas holidays.”

It’s estimated that the show will include 120,000 bulbs, and all are programmed by Knowles.

“Each year, I see more families walking through our winter wonderland – laughing, joking, and enjoying the lights and the music. This year will be no different,” shared Mayor Richard Poole. “This year our families will appreciate, more than ever, the park’s beauty and the opportunity it gives us to put aside the year’s many challenges in exchange for the love of family and friends. It is my sincerest hope that we can all celebrate the Christmas season as safely as possible in the best town in Alberta.”
