Alberta reports a record 1,336 new cases of COVID-19

For a third straight day, Alberta is reporting a record one-day high of new COVID-19 cases.

On Saturday, Alberta Health shared that they’ve confirmed 1,336 new cases since Friday, smashing yesterday’s record of 1,155. Thursday’s high 1,105 was also an historic high at the time.

The 1,336 new cases represent a 6.9 per cent positivity rate with 19,239 tests complete in the last day.

Saturday’s figures go along with nine more deaths from the virus taking the provincial total to 471.

There are 56 people in ICU, down two from yesterday, while hospitalizations are up 10 to 320. There are 15 hospitalizations (up three) and 0 people in ICU in Central Zone, where all the intensive care beds are in Red Deer.

Speaking of the city, the active caseload is down from 118 to 112. This Monday, Red Deer city council will deliberate third reading of a mask bylaw which would apply to all indoor public places.

Meantime, new individual cases have been confirmed in Central Zone schools, both on Nov. 20. One case is at Lacombe Composite High School, while another lone case is affecting students at Stettler’s William E. Hay Secondary, Stettler Elementary and Erskine School.

Other local schools with confirmed cases over the past week include St. Joseph High School, Notre Dame High School, Hunting Hills High School, Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School, Father Henri Voisin School, St. Thomas Aquinas Middle School, Innisfail High School, HJ Cody High School and Fox Run School in Sylvan Lake, West Central High School and Pioneer Middle School in Rocky Mountain House.

Outbreaks continue in the Central Zone related to the Avenue Living Communities office in Red Deer, Olymel in Red Deer, a private gathering in Ponoka, Pure Fitness in Red Deer, and at Drumheller Institution. There are also outbreaks at the Providence Place supporting living facility in Daysland, and at a similar facility in Camrose called Rosealta Lodge.
