Plane struck power lines before fatal crash near Thorsby: TSB

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has determined the cause of a plane crash that killed two residents of Rocky Mountain House over the weekend.

An update posted to the TSB website states that the two-seat amateur-built Harmon Rocket II aircraft carrying Ken Fowler and Hannalei Eder was conducting a low level flight when it struck power lines.

The plane then hit the ground about 22 km northwest of Thorsby. There was a post-impact fire and the aircraft was destroyed.

The TSB continues to investigate.

Fowler, 59, and Eder, 48, were both pilots and had long been involved in the aviation industry, specifically the formation flying and airshow discipline.

Fowler, a member of Team Rockey Aerobatics, had been manager of the Rocky Mountain House Airport for 22 years and was instrumental in launching the Rocky Mountain House Airshow.

Eder was one of his mentees.

Friends and family shared memories of the two earlier this week.
