Construction begins on new walking trail extension in Ponoka

Work is underway on a walking trail extension at Ponoka Tractor Park which will connect the downtown to the Battle River Valley trail system.

The improvements are located near 50 Street and 53 Avenue, and will include preservation of mature trees, paved trails through the park, new seating and flowers among other things, as well as refurbishment of two heritage tractors.

“As a community, we are so fortunate to have the natural beauty of the river valley trail system in the heart of our town. It heightens the quality of life for Ponoka citizens because it gives us such a variety of options for staying active and fit,” said Margo Kusiek, Chair of the Ponoka Recreation, Parks and Culture Advisory Committee.

“With these trail improvements at the Tractor Park now bringing this marvelous asset directly into our downtown core, it will be a real benefit to the whole community,”

The extension is slated for completion by the end of October, weather pending. New designs for Central Park and Old Hospital Rotary Park are also underway and should be done next month as well.
