Record tying temperatures in central Alberta

While Red Deer has yet to set a new daily maximum temperature record during this week’s heat wave, some other communities equalled their previous records on Monday.

Rocky Mountain House tied its record high for August 17 of 29.8 degrees set in 2001. Sundre tied its record of 31.5 that was set in 2008.

Drumheller set a record of 36.3 degrees on Monday, beating the old record of 35.0 set in 1984.

Red Deer reached 31.0 degrees on Monday which was short of the 32.9 degree record set in 2001.

Onefour, Alberta, which is located south of Medicine Hat, was the province’s hot spot on Monday in reaching 37.3 degrees (breaking a record dating back to 1933).

A heat warning remains in effect for the Red Deer region as of Tuesday afternoon with a high of 31 in the forecast (humidex 37).

The forecast high for Wednesday is 25 followed by 23 for Thursday and 22 on Friday.
