Town of Ponoka launches summer photo contest

The Town of Ponoka is inviting local citizens to submit photos that showcase Ponoka and the people who live here.

“With many activities to enjoy during the summer months in our community, we want to celebrate summer, and Ponoka, with this photo contest,” said Town of Ponoka Communications Manager, Sandra Smith.

Citizens are invited to submit photos that showcase some of Ponoka’s many great features, including recreation areas, such as the Battle River Valley, the Splash Park, parks and playgrounds, and the Aquaplex. All photos submitted should also showcase our residents using these facilities, such as a couple walking their dog on the trails, a family enjoying an activity together at a local park, or children playing at a neighbourhood playground.

“We’re looking for photos of people of all ages enjoying themselves while experiencing all that our community has to offer,” said Smith. “We want to celebrate what a great place Ponoka is to live with photos that capture the quality of life that our residents enjoy here,” she adds.

The photos will be used to promote Ponoka on the Town website, social media pages and for other Town promotional purposes.

The winning photos will be awarded gift bags filled with Town swag and Town of Ponoka gift certificates that can be applied toward a Ponoka Aquaplex membership or the use of other Town recreational facilities such as a punch pass to the racquetball courts or ice rentals at the Ponoka Arena Complex.

The gift certificates will be in the amount of $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $25 for third place. A panel of community judges will be assembled to select the winners based on the quality of the photo including lighting, composition and how well it showcases the beauty of Ponoka and the people who live here.

The contest will remain open until noon on September 30, 2020. All participants in the photo contest must fill out a contest entry form and a waiver granting the Town permission to use their photos for Town promotional purposes. Each individual photographed in the photos must also sign a waiver agreeing to let the Town use their image for promotional purposes.

All photos submitted in the contest must be of high resolution – at least 500 KB (kilobytes) in file size or larger. The photos can be submitted electronically through email or on a memory stick that is dropped off at the Town Office (200, 5604-50 St.). Contest entry forms and waivers are posted on the Town website at www.ponoka.ca. Paper copies are also available at the Town Office for pick up.

With COVID-19 still a concern, contest participants are reminded to please take proper precautions while taking photos, including physical distancing from others who aren’t part of your household or cohort, and staying home if you are feeling sick.
