Pride parade to roll through Red Deer

Jul 25, 2020 | 9:00 AM

A pride parade will move through the streets of downtown Red Deer.

Following the trend of drive-by birthday celebrations, organizers say the parade will have participants displaying their pride from their vehicles, to ensure public health and safety.

The physically distanced event will kick off a month-long virtual pride celebration in central Alberta hosted by the Red Deer Queer Community Association (RDQCA).

The parade on Saturday, August 1 will start at 11 a.m. at the Black Knight Inn parking lot (2929 50 Ave.) and will head north down Gaetz Ave. and wind through downtown Red Deer via Ross Street.

The parade is being held in collaboration with the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC) and the Downtown Red Deer Business Association, who say all are invited to deck out their vehicles with pride gear and create a colourful rainbow stream through the heart of the city.

An after-party celebration will be held for parade-goers at the Kiwanis Picnic Park (4500 Fountain Drive) at 3 p.m.

This event is not affiliated with Central Alberta Pride Week (Virtual Pride) which runs Aug. 9-15.
