Province hiring consultant to review pandemic response

Jul 12, 2020 | 12:53 PM

The Government of Alberta says it will seek proposals to review the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The third-party review will enhance Alberta’s capacity to respond to a potential second wave of the disease and any future pandemics, a release says.

The review will look at:

  • health system response
  • economic response
  • governance and decision-making
  • procurement
  • engagement with other governments and stakeholders
  • communications

The province says the review will be similar to those conducted after past natural disasters, such as the 2016 Horse River fire that swept through Fort McMurray, the 2013 floods in southern Alberta, and the 2011 Slave Lake fire.

Consultants have until August 10 to submit their proposals, with a successful candidate being chosen by August 19.

The review is to be completed by this fall.
