Innisfail honours grads convoy-style

On Saturday, the Innisfail community came together to celebrate the achievements of local graduates at Innisfail Community Grad 2020.

The celebration was for grads who call Innisfail home, regardless of which high school they attended.

“These amazing grads have gone to school together, played sports together, live in the same neighbourhoods and been friends because they live in the same community,” says Carrie Black, one of the event’s organizers. “This day gave the grads one last time to come together before they start their journey wherever life after high school take them.”

When the local school divisions announced all graduation ceremony plans would be postponed until the fall due to COVID-19, Black and Kerry Towle approached the Town of Innisfail about having a local celebration for the graduates in Innisfail. When that didn’t happen, the moms decided to work together to make something happen for the grads.

Grads celebrated on Saturday with a drive-in style ceremony at the Innisfail Legion Park followed by a convoy through Innisfail, giving grads the chance to wear the dresses and suits they had bought in preparation for their school grad, if they chose to.

The event was also live streamed so family and friends could watch from a distance.
