Multiple charges laid after busy weekend for Rocky Mountain House RCMP

Rocky Mountain House RCMP say they and the Crime Reduction Unit were busy on the June 5-7 weekend responding to “a large volume of calls for service and conduct self-generated patrols in the South Fork area of Clearwater County.”

RCMP charged five individuals with a total of 31 Criminal Code and 14 Traffic Safety Act charges, and recovered four stolen vehicles among other stolen property.

Police say five vehicles, one holiday trailer, two dirt bikes, and a boat with trailer were all towed from Crown land.

On June 5, at 11:47 p.m., officers responded to a theft in progress on a rural property south west of Rocky Mountain House.

Police say the thieves were interrupted by the property owner who then reported the theft to the RCMP.

Officers located two stolen vehicles in the area. Both vehicles fled, however RCMP were able to contain them and used a tire deflation device to stop them.

Three suspects fled on foot from the stolen vehicle. With assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services, all three individuals were located and arrested.

The vehicle used in the attempted theft was reported stolen by a suspect who allegedly assaulted the owner in the face with a handgun and threatened to kill him.

Sarah Beach, 26, is charged with flight from police, resist arrest and possession of stolen property.

Ryan Forslund, 36, is charged with eight criminal code charges including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of possession of stolen property. He is also charged with two offences under the Traffic Safety Act.

Both Beach and Forslund were released from custody following a judicial hearing.

Joshua Severin, 27, is charged with 12 criminal charges including flight from police, resist arrest and seven counts of fail to comply with conditions. He is also charged with two offences under the Traffic Safety Act. Following a hearing, Severin was remanded into custody.

Just two days later on June 7, Forslund was the subject of a traffic stop in Rocky Mountain House and hit with additional charges including possession of methamphetamine, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and five charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

Forslund, again, had a judicial interim release hearing was released on cash bail.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, is facing five charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

On June 7, shortly after 10:15 a.m., RCMP attended a campsite and located a male who was known to be bound by several conditions that he was in breach of.

Paul Andrew Woods, 39, of Blackfalds, was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his conditions of release. Woods was held for a release hearing and was remanded into custody.

On June 7, while on a separate investigation at the campsite, RCMP entered into a trafficking methamphetamine investigation.

Chad Halter, 31, was arrested for failing to comply with parole release conditions, and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

RCMP seized approximately 130 grams of Methamphetamine, three grams of cocaine, $1,285 in Canadian currency, and a Max Defence stun baton after which Halter was also charged with possession of cocaine and possession of proceeds of crime. Halter had a release hearing and he was remanded into custody.
