New initiative connects business professionals with Red Deer non-profits

Jun 9, 2020 | 7:36 PM

The Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce and Volunteer Central are excited to partner in an initiative that matches the skills of staff from local businesses with volunteer-based organizations.

Skill-sharing between the sectors can help build our community together:

• Community organizations have great information, connections to the community, and a great depth of focus in specific areas. Their staff has a breadth of education, experience, and expertise in dealing with complex social problems.

• Business owners can develop a corporate culture that contributes to employee engagement and productivity. Providing time for employees to volunteer cultivates enhanced or additional skills development. And, 68% of Canadians say, given the choice between two jobs, they would choose the one at the company with a stronger volunteering culture. (2017 Volunteer Canada/ Ipsos Public Affairs). Giving back to the community is a positive way to create awareness of your business brand, too.

Working together, we can build a strong and resilient community.

Here are just a few suggestions on how staff from businesses can help:
– Remote calling/call centre
– Fundraising
– Project management expertise
– Accounting, bookkeeping expertise
– Technical expertise
– Human resources & management expertise
– Social media/marketing/ advertising expertise
– Information/communication systems

Business owners and their staff can apply through Volunteer Central. The information will be shared between Volunteer Central and the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce to find the best match.

Once the match is made, both the business and the non-profit organization will be contacted and provided with additional details:

⦁ Discuss the skills your business/staff can offer

⦁ Agree on the number of hours or project that can be provided

⦁ Non-profit organizations will supply the business with copies of volunteer agreements (confidentiality, screening requirements, etc.)

Business owners and non-profit organization managers can sign up here.
