Fewer than 1,000 active COVID-19 cases in Alberta

Alberta now has fewer than 1,000 active cases of COVID-19.

The latest numbers released Wednesday afternoon by Alberta Health show there are 970 active cases in the province and 5,637 recoveries.

Alberta has seen just 19 new cases over the past 24 hours for a total of 6,735. There are no additional deaths to report, leaving the total at 128.

There are currently 58 people in Alberta hospitals because of COVID-19, with seven of them in intensive care.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Red Deer remains 37, including two active and 35 recovered.

Red Deer County has seen an additional recovery, for a total of 15, and now has just one active case.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the Central zone continues to hold steady at 99, including six active cases, 92 recovered and one death. A total of 16,638 people in the zone have been tested.

Clearwater County 2 cases (2 recovered)

Ponoka County 3 cases (1 active, 2 recovered)

County of Stettler 2 cases (2 recovered)

Mountain View County 9 cases (2 active, 7 recovered)
