Getting a stolen truck caught in a ditch has led to a list of charges against a pair of men from central Alberta.

It was at around 7:30 a.m. on May 16 when Innisfail RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle stuck in the ditch on C and E Trail. Responding officers located two males attempting to pull a trailer out of the ditch after they had jackknifed it.

One of the men, as it turned out, was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants for his arrest stemming from investigations at, Sundre, Okotoks, Airdrie, Blackfalds and the Red Deer probation office.

Further investigation revealed that the truck the men were driving, the trailer they were towing and the second truck that was secured to the trailer were all stolen. Both were arrested without incident.

Upon searching the stolen trucks, police found a loaded sawed-off shotgun, approx. 60g of methamphetamine (approx. $3600 street value), a knife and bear spray.

Mitchell Lewis Engler, 34, of Olds and Lester Martin, 34, of Lacombe face charges relating to possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, fail to comply, and several firearms counts.

Both men have been remanded and are to appear in Red Deer provincial court on May 25.
