Market at Red Deer will start 50th season on time May 16

May 9, 2020 | 11:53 AM

The Market at Red Deer is a go, and it will actually open on time after previously announcing it would be delayed by several weeks due to COVID-19-related restrictions.

In a statement on Facebook, organizers say the market will open on Saturday, May 16 for the start of its 50th year.

“Of course, it comes with the understanding that it won’t be business as usual due to the COVID-19 situation we are all affected by,” the post states.

“The Market will be regulating numbers of customers that enter, assisting vendors on the safe selling of their products, and trying to generally keep citizens safe.”

Vendors can also list themselves online to participate in a new curbside delivery program at RedDeerMarket.com, while patrons can shop online in advance, if they prefer that to waiting in line to go in the market.

“Upon arrival, call the vendor and tell them you are at the curbside station and ready to receive your pre-arranged order,” it says on the website. “The vendor or a runner will deliver your order to the curbside area, then set it on the “barrier table” for you to pick up and return home.”

Customers will be allowed into the market each Saturday starting at 8 a.m and there will be one entrance and one exit. The market will close at 12:30 p.m.

The line-up will be monitored and all those attending will be subject to a COVID-19 screening process.

“We’re in this together, so be patient, be safe, and be respectful,” the post continues. “Thanks to all in advance for their caring. See you at the market (six feet away of course).”

The Market at Red Deer is located at the Servus Arena parking lot (4725 43 Street).
