Active cases in Red Deer down to two, 59 new cases provincially

Alberta is reporting 59 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, May 9, for a total of 6,157.

One more Albertan has died, raising the death toll to 116.

Currently, 1,837 are active cases, while 4,204 people have recovered from the coronavirus.

In hospital, there are 74 patients, a decrease of seven from Friday, and ICU patients total 15, down one.

According to data from Alberta Health (subject to correction), May 8 (81) and 9 (74) represent the first two consecutive days with a drop in overall hospital numbers. On May 7, there were 89 hospitalizations.

In Central Zone, the number of cases remains at 97, the lowest of all health zones. Five people are in hospital with two in the ICU. There has been just one death in the zone, which was in the Camrose area.

Red Deer saw two more recoveries Saturday to give the city a total of two active cases and 34 recoveries.

To date, there have been 630 cases confirmed at continuing care facilities, and 84 residents have died.

There are 73 active cases among workers at the Cargill meat processing plant in High River. Another 879 have recovered.

At JBS Foods Canada in Brooks, there are 89 active cases among workers, while 510 have recovered.

In Balzac at Harmony Beef, there are 20 active cases and 18 people have recovered.

A total of 169,415 Albertans have been tested for COVID-19 and 181,107 tests have been performed by the lab. In the last day, 3,548 tests were completed.
