Red Deer now with six active COVID-19 cases

Alberta confirmed 190 new cases on Thursday for a total of 5,355.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Red Deer increased by one to 36, including six active and 30 recovered. Central zone cases now sit at 85.

A total of 148,937 tests have completed, including 5,051 since Wednesday.

Alberta has now seen a total of 2,161 recoveries.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported three additional deaths from the virus on Thursday. She also shared that a death previously attributed to COVID-19 was not virus-related, meaning Alberta’s death toll from the novel coronavirus is now 89. None of the new deaths were from the Central zone.

Central zone cases now sit at 85:
Red Deer 36 (six active)
Red Deer County 13 (two active)
Lacombe County 3 (all recovered)
Lacombe (city) 2 (both recovered)
County of Stettler 3 (all recovered)
Clearwater County 2 (one active)
Ponoka County 2 (both recovered)

Cases have been identified in all zones across the province:

  • 3,590 cases in the Calgary zone
  • 946 cases in the South zone
  • 490 cases in the Edmonton zone
  • 211 cases in the North zone
  • 85 cases in the Central zone
  • 33 cases in zones yet to be confirmed
  • Of these cases, there are currently 90 people in hospital, 22 of whom have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
  • 627 cases are suspected of being community acquired.
  • The total deaths are 89: 57 in the Calgary zone; 14 in the North zone; 12 in the Edmonton zone; five in the South zone; and one in the Central zone.
  • To date, 544 cases have been confirmed at continuing care facilities, and 61 residents at these facilities have died.
