Brazeau County defers utility bill payments, adopts IDP with Breton

Apr 16, 2020 | 10:36 AM

In helping residents dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, Brazeau County Council has approved a motion to allow County water and sewer utility customers to defer payment of their utility bills for 90 days without late fees or administrative charges.

Council will also allow any balances after those 90 days to be paid in installments over the last 6 months of 2020 without penalty.

All water and sewer customers are encouraged to pay their bills if they are able to.

Council also adopted the Intermunicipal Development Plan with the Village of Breton. The County had previously adopted an Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework with Breton prior to this agreement.

At the April 7 meeting, Council gave support for expanded laboratory testing at Cynthia Solar Aquatic Systems Facility, approving $12,000 to perform enhanced testing at the facility for the remainder of 2020.

Suggested additional testing includes full nutrients test (currently performing limited parameters), total coliforms, E. coli, total organic carbon, total dissolved solids, unionized ammonia, and ammonia.

Brazeau County says it currently meets and exceeds the required testing as per the Alberta Environment and Parks operational approval.

Council also passed motions to provide $1,000 to support a number of proposed community events and organizations, including the Drayton Valley Triathlon (in-kind), Golden Spur Gymkhana group operations (in-kind), and the Drayton Valley Pro Rodeo for the annual rodeo.

The funding will only be granted if the events proceed.
