Town of Blackfalds announces changes to BOLT and at transfer station

Apr 4, 2020 | 10:20 AM

The Town of Blackfalds issued an update Friday with respect to changes being made to BOLT Transit services, hours at the local transfer station, and related to staffing.

For starters, due to low ridership, BOLT Transit is suspending its evening express route (leaving from Red Deer at 8:24 p.m.), effective Monday, April 6. Any other rides after that time are suspended, according to CAO Myron Thompson.

In addition, BOLT will not be running on Good Friday (April 10) or Easter Monday (April 13). The rest of the service schedule remains intact, and measures have been put in place to ensure physical distancing guidelines are maintained on board the buses.

As well, the Blackfalds transfer station will not be open this weekend, and beginning April 6, it will only be open from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Thompson also notes the total number of people laid off this week is 26. It was previously stated to be “over 25.”

Mayor Richard Poole, as well as Emergency Management & Protective Services Manager Ken Morrison, also speak during the update.
