One additional case of COVID-19 confirmed in Red Deer

Red Deer now has 17 cases of COVID-19, one more than Thursday.

The latest confirmed case is in the city’s east side — where there are 12 cases — and is one of 56 new cases in the province. The total in Alberta is now at 542, including 33 recoveries.

The city of Red Deer also has four cases in the southwest, and one in the north.

In Central Zone, which includes Red Deer, the number is now 43. That is six more than Thursday and includes two new cases in Red Deer County. There is one new case each in Tofield and Ponoka.

The province has said due to patient confidentiality, it is not sharing specifics of where cases are located, other than in larger municipalities.

Up to 42 of the province’s 542 cases may be due to community transmission, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said Friday.

Albertans are now prohibited from attending gatherings of more than 15 people, and they must continue to observe two metres of social distancing.
