Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce the Bedford Food Company Athletes of the Week:

Carmyn Penner – Queens Curling
Hometown – St. Albert, AB
Bachelor of Education Elementary (1st year)

Lead Carmyn Penner played a key role in the RDC Queens’ 7-5 national bronze medal victory over the Concordia University Thunder at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada College Curling Championships.

During round-robin play, the Queens had a 1-3 start, but remained composed and picked up three consecutive victories, finishing 4-3 and earning a spot in the playoffs. Penner positively contributed to the team’s strong cohesion, which was integral to its success in Portage la Prairie.

As the stakes rose, the first-year Bachelor of Education Elementary student elevated her play. Penner had her best performance of the year in the medal game, making a clutch draw that set up the winning point in the tenth end. She impressively shot 81 per cent in the contest.

Carter Hills – Kings Volleyball
Hometown – Legal, AB
Bachelor of Education Science (1st year)

Hills had a magnificent performance at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship and was recognized as a CCAA Second-Team Tournament All-Star.

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Rookie of the Year was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game for his outstanding effort.

In the bronze semi-final match, the first-year Bachelor of Education Elementary student had another strong game against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
