Brazeau County Council highlights from March 4

Brazeau County Council this week approved a resolution sent to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta declaring that Brazeau County has been and is in a state of economic crisis.

For the past five years, Brazeau County has been an advocate to the provincial and federal governments regarding the economic situation, in not just the Brazeau region, but also the province and the country.

Now, Council says it wants the same leadership shown in the County to be demonstrated by all levels of government.

Council on Tuesday also adopted the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) with Leduc County, as well as the ICF with the Village of Breton.

Consultation continues regarding the Intermunicipal Development Plan with the Town of Drayton Valley, and Council will discuss the issue further at their next meeting on March 23.

Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Chief Tom Thompson presented County Council with the department’s statistics from January.

There were four fire calls, one in Town and three in Brazeau County, two alarm calls, and three motor vehicle collision calls. In total, there were 12 calls in the Town and 10 in the County.

Brazeau County Council also adopted updates to the FIN-7 policy regarding funding for community organizations and events.

Changes include capping the maximum amount for community event funding and youth sports grants at $1,000. The changes do not affect in-kind contributions from the County.

With that, the County then passed a motion to provide $1,000 in funding to support the community dinners organized by the Drayton Valley Community Foundation.
