Lawyers for woman accused of aiding Walmart murder suspect awaiting disclosure
Lawyers for a woman accused of aiding a suspect charged in a fatal shooting in Red Deer in December say they are still waiting for more information regarding the case.
Crystal Maurice made a brief appearance in Red Deer provincial court Wednesday morning via CCTV from the Edmonton Remand Centre. The 30-year-old is charged with several counts including accessory after murder, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle.
Laura Phypers, appearing as agent for Maurice’s lawyer, Andrew Phypers, told court on Wednesday that they are still awaiting more disclosure regarding the case and asked that it be put over to Feb. 26. Judge David Plosz agreed to the request.
It was on the evening of Dec. 20, 2019 when RCMP responded to Red Deer’s south Walmart location and found 69-year-old Charles (Jim) Williams in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest following what police believe was an attempted robbery gone wrong. Williams was taken to hospital where he later died.
