Drayton Valley RCMP report: Jan. 9 – Jan. 16

January 9

9:20 am – Drayton Valley – 63 Street – Complaint of unknown people, possibly homeless, breaking into the outdoor showers/bathrooms of a business overnight.

10:31 am – Drayton Valley – Omniplex – Report of theft from a vehicle the previous night between 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm. Prepaid visas, lotto tickets, business cheques stolen from the vehicle.

10:57 am – Drayton Valley – 52 Avenue/53 Street – 2 vehicle collision, no injuries.

11:12 am – Brazeau County – Sundance Road – Complainant advised he was forced off the road by a semi-truck traveling the opposite direction on an oilfield controlled road. No injuries.

12:51 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Hit and run collision in the parking lot of Uptown Laundry. Suspect vehicle, a white Ford F150, hit a parked blue Chevrolet Trax and left the area north on 50 Street. Minor damage to the parked vehicle. Police contacted the company which owned the suspect vehicle, they advised the driver would attend the detachment to report. When the driver arrived in the suspect vehicle, police detected signs of impairment and administered a roadside screening test which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought into the detachment where breath samples were obtained exceeding the legal limit. The driver was released from custody for court March 3, 2020, charges are pending.

3:51 pm – Drayton Valley – Report of a domestic-related breach of conditions. This matter is still under investigation.

4:08 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Attempted theft of a vehicle. Passenger door and steering column were damaged. Nothing else appeared to be stolen or left behind. No surveillance available.

8:22 pm – Drayton Valley – Independent Grocery – Suspicious items/clothing left in store. A used winter coat, boots, and sweater were left in the store. Nothing appeared to be stolen and no ID could be located in the clothing.

11:55 pm – Drayton Valley – 46 Avenue – 911 hang-up from a cell phone, sounded like a child whispering before being disconnected. Attempts to call back unsuccessful. Members attended and patrolled the area. Attempts at obtaining a location on the cell phone provided a 650-metre radius, police were unable to locate the origin of the call.

January 10

11:25 am – Drayton Valley – 55 Avenue – Town CPO turned in property left on the corner by an anonymous complainant who stated unknown suspects were carrying it through the alley when they dropped it and ran away when they saw his vehicle. The only items of value recovered appeared to be ski boots and a jacket with a one-use lift pass attached. Police records were checked; no matching occurrences could be located. Items to be held for 90 days.

1:15 pm – Brazeau County – Report that a Telus tower site was broken into, possibly on the morning of January 9th. 8 North Star batteries were stolen.

1:31 pm – Drayton Valley – Complaint received of a person driving while suspended. Police received a copy of a letter advising that the notice of suspension was forthcoming; however, police checks showed the license to still be currently active. The suspect was contacted and advised her to surrender the license to registries as had been requested.

8:30 pm – Drayton Valley – Industrial Road – Wellbeing check requested on an adult. Complainant was concerned with who the subject of complaint was hanging around with. Police attended the location; however, the subject of complaint did not want to speak with police. Police unable to assist further.

January 11

12:55 am – Brazeau County – RR 85 – Police attended to conduct a curfew check on a prolific offender. The male was not home.

3:26 am – Drayton Valley – 38 Street – Noise complaint. Police attended, asked homeowner to keep the noise to an appropriate level. No further complaints received.

5:30 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Barred male from MAT program at the facility. They provided him with a granola bar and hot chocolate and offered to call police for him to try to assist with finding an alternative place to stay as it was cold. The male declined and left without issue.

5:59 am – Drayton Valley – 53 Avenue – RCMP, EMS, and Drayton Valley Fire Department attended to a reported structure fire at the Heidi Ann Apartment. Some people were already evacuating and reporting smoke on the 3rd floor. The RCMP member went upstairs to assist with getting people out. While doing door knocks the member discovered that someone had badly burnt toast causing smoke and the fire alarm to go off. Fire attended and confirmed there was no fire or emergency.

10:08 am – Drayton Valley – 49 Avenue – Parking complaint, vehicle on sidewalk. Attempts to locate the owner were unsuccessful. Warning letter sent by mail.

10:13 am – Brazeau County – Report of child welfare concerns. Members investigated, determined there were no criminal allegations, matter referred to Child and Family Services.

10:52 am – Brazeau County – Report that a person is holding the complainant’s property due to owed money. Members explained that they cannot withhold a person’s property and the proper process would be to go through small claims court. They agreed to return the property.

10:54 am – Drayton Valley – Omniplex – Red 1998 Dodge Ram, Alberta license plate USG-480, stolen from the parking lot between 8:00 am and 10:54 am.

1:39 pm – Drayton Valley – 52 Street – 911 report of an assault. Members attended and separated parties. Determined to be a consensual fight, no charges.

6:06 pm – Parkland County – Hwy 624 – Traffic hazard, a blue tote had fallen off of a vehicle and was blocking one of the driving lanes. Police attended, the tote had already been removed.

6:30 pm – Drayton Valley – Post Office – Complainant advised the front doors were unlocked and wasn’t sure if they should be. Property representative confirmed that the front doors are left open so people can access their mail.

7:10 pm – Drayton Valley – 53 Street – Lost/stolen Alberta license plate CFF-0536 sometime in the last few days.

8:41 pm – Drayton Valley – 53 Avenue – Report of a disturbance. Members attended, parties had already separated and were uncooperative with police. No grounds for criminal investigation.

January 12

2:53 am – Drayton Valley – 52 Street – Intoxicated female dropped off at the detachment after being found in minimal clothing for the sub -30-degree weather. Female was lodged until sober.

7:25 am – Brazeau County – Member requested to attend location of an injured deer on the side of the highway. Member attended and euthanized the deer.

7:29 am – Drayton Valley – Industrial road – Complainant calling to report they are being harassed at work.

9:17 am – Brazeau County – Complainant calling to report a chimney fire at residence. Member attended, Fire and EMS in attendance.

10:38 am – Drayton valley – 50 Avenue – Member on patrol conducted a traffic stop as driver was not wearing seatbelt. Open cannabis in vehicle and driver could not produce valid insurance.

10:41 am – Brazeau county – RR 63 – several 911 hangups received, open line, static. Ongoing issue.

3:19 pm – Drayton valley – 50 Avenue – Complainant wishing members conduct a wellbeing check on a friend. Friend lives in the Blackfalds area. Message forwarded to Blackfalds Detachment.

3:40 pm – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge Trailer court – Complainant called to report that previous tenant has threatened to burn down trailer. Member spoke with suspect who advised that they have no plans on returning let alone burning any trailers.

4:08 pm – Drayton valley – 50 Avenue – Complainant reporting an abandoned dark SUV showed up during the night. Member attended, vehicle not stolen and legally parked.

5:57 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant requesting a wellbeing check on a friend they haven’t heard from. Members were able to contact person who advised they were fine.

6:05 pm – Brazeau county – RR 94 – Complainant reporting a service rig in the ditch. Member attended, company called and advised they were coming to pick it up.

8:42 pm – Brazeau County – RR 94 – Complainant reporting a Silver dodge truck in the ditch. No one in the vehicle. Members attended and located one set of tracks leaving from the vehicle to the bush area. One male located who was subsequently charged with several offenses.

9:40 pm – Drayton Valley – 49B Street – Complainant reporting threats received from friends ex over Facebook. Threats were vague in nature. Members advised both parties to block suspect.

10:31 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Complainant called to report that their daughter does not wish to come with them as per parenting order. Complainant wishes member to attend and force daughter to go with them. Member attended, daughter eventually agreed to go.

January 13

12:31 am – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 500 – Homeowner complainant of an unknown alarm. False alarm

4:15 am – Drayton Valley – 45 Street – Complainant reporting someone is kicking their door. No access gained. Suspect is a female wearing a hoodie. Member called complainant and made patrols of area as it was very cold out and concerned for thewelfare of female. Female not located.

8:34 am – Brazeau county – Hwy 759 – Complainant advised that they dropped a person off at the intersection of Hwy 39 and Hwy 759 as they were trying to get to Hwy 624. Complainant was concerned for their well being as it was so cold. Member attended location, footprints in snow stopped abruptly indicating they were picked up by another vehicle.

8:59 am – Brazeau county – Hwy 621 – Complainant advising of a motor vehicle collision between an SUV and a semi-truck. No injuries. Member attended.

12:02 pm – Brazeau county – Hwy 22 – Complainant reporting a semi-truck is dragging its load, possibly a sea can. Member was nearby at the time and patrolled the area, vehicle not located, reported approximately 20 minutes after observed.

12:40 pm – Drayton Valley – 44 Avenue – Complainant reporting an abandoned vehicle, ongoing for the past month. Black Dodge Durango has been parked outside residence for past month. Member called the registered owner who advised their vehicle had mechanical issues and would have it towed.

1:23 pm – Drayton valley – Complainant reporting ex-boyfriend had contacted current boyfriend and sent him a rude message. Thinks it is a breach of conditions. Member contacted suspect and advised them to stop sending messages.

1:38 pm – Brazeau County – Complainant reporting a break and enter to a cell tower north of Cynthia. The entrance door to the shelter was damaged and the front compound gate was torn out. Batteries, cables were stolen and other electronic equipment vandalized.

2:38 pm – Drayton valley – 46 Street – Complainant reporting a suspicious male is possibly stealing items from yards. Male is wearing a black coat with the hood up. Members patrolled the area, male not located.

3:29 pm – Drayton valley – Omniplex – Complainant calling to report a hit and run. Complainant had parked their Grey Dodge Ram 3500 and when they returned, they observed damage indicating someone had backed into their vehicle.

January 14

10:15 am – Drayton Valley – 49 Avenue – Complainant calling to report an assault. Members attended, male arrested.

10:41 am – Drayton valley – 50 Street – Complainant reporting a hit and run to their vehicle while parked at Domino’s Pizza. Damage to the rear passenger corner of a red 2020 Kia Forte.

11:09 am – Drayton Valley – 44 Avenue – Complainant attended the detachment to report a family dispute which resulted in an assault.

12:23 pm – Drayton valley – 50 Street – Complainant attended the detachment to report a hit and run to their vehicle while parked. Damage to their Black 2013 Ford Edge.

2:27 pm – Brazeau county – RR 83 – 911 hang up. Call back indicates a family dispute which had de-escalated. Complainant was distraught and stated a family member was abusing them emotionally.

4:59 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant calling to report their son missing after a vehicle collision in the afternoon. Son had been picked up by police the previous day and held for a bail hearing.

January 15

2:16 am – Brazeau County – Fire department requests assistance with an unoccupied shop on fire. Member attended.

3:20 am – Drayton valley – 54 Street – Member on patrol conducted a vehicle stop. Driver arrested for impaired driving.

6:33 am – Drayton Valley – Mackenzie Avenue – 911 hang up. Female caller sounded distressed. Members attended, EMS called, female transported to hospital.

8:17 am – Drayton valley – 50 Street – Commercial alarm canceled prior to member attendance. False alarm

10:34 am – Brazeau County – Complainant reporting a possible theft of rig mats over the past year.

6:59 pm – Drayton Valley – Madsen Avenue – 911 hang up, ongoing issue. Member attended and confirmed there was no emergency

7:06 pm – Drayton Valley – MacKenzie Avenue – Complainant reporting a suspicious grey Ford F150 has been idling for several hours. Member attended and conducted a traffic stop. Driver was trying to trap a stray kitten to prevent it from freezing.

11:10 pm – Drayton Valley – 47 Street – 911 hang up. Pocket dialed emergency number. Member attended. No emergency.

January 16

12:19 am – Drayton Valley – 63 Street – Complainant reporting a structure fire at the UFA. Members attended along with Fire Department. No fire, lights were emitting from a vent on the roof giving the illusion of a fire.

5:24 am – Drayton Valley – 63 Street – Complainant reporting suspicious persons in a maroon minivan is parked by the bathrooms. Member attended and located van and persons. Confirmed they ran out of fuel and were waiting for a family member to assist.
