Red Deer College hosting events for aspiring entrepreneurs
Red Deer College will be hosting two events this winter to help educate, encourage and support future small business owners from across central Alberta.
The free Business Basics for the Aspiring Entrepreneur Seminar is open to anyone and will provide information for those interested in starting and operating a small business. Topics will include legal structure and risk management, financing, accounting, sales and marketing, entrepreneurism, tips for success, key steps, and lessons learned.
For those looking to elevate their business ideas to the next level, the Breakthrough Your Business competition will provide an opportunity to create a proposal and business plan, which they will then present to a panel of judges. First place will receive $6,000 towards the start-up of their business as well as a $500 tuition voucher for RDC’s School of Continuing Education. Second place will receive $4,000 towards the start-up of their business and a $250 tuition voucher for RDC’s School of Continuing Education.
Anyone competing in Breakthrough Your Business must participate in the Business Basics Seminar, either this year or in the past years, as the learning from this seminar will help to position them for success in the competition and in their future businesses. People looking to compete are also required to submit their ideas by January 31. From all of the submissions, up to five contestants will be selected to participate in Breakthrough Your Business. These contestants will have the opportunity for dry-run presentations to a class of RDC Marketing students one week prior to the event.
