VADER'S APPEAL DENIED

Supreme Court will not hear Travis Vader’s appeal

OTTAWA- The case of an Alberta man convicted of killing two Edmonton-area seniors will not be argued before Canada’s highest court.

The Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal from Travis Vader, who was given a life sentence for the July 2010 deaths of Lyle and Marie McCann.

Vader’s lawyers had argued that the case was dragged through the courts, and that the trial judge made errors and showed bias when he substituted the lesser offence of manslaughter for two second-degree murder verdicts.

The son of Lyle and Marie McCann says he’s thrilled that the Supreme Court court has rejected the appeal.

Bret McCann — who now lives in Australia — says it was terrific to get the news just before Christmas.

He says it’s been quite a marathon since his parents vanished after setting out on a camping trip and the fact that Vader has never revealed the location of their bodies is a huge sign he hasn’t been rehabilitated.

As usual, the Supreme Court gave no reasons for refusing to hear Vader’s arguments.
