Man charged in Sunchild First Nation homicide to stand trial

Nov 5, 2019 | 2:05 PM

A man accused of killing another man at the Sunchild First Nation is going to trial.

On Nov. 9, 2018, Rocky Mountain House RCMP members responded to a report of an altercation at a gas station at the Sunchild First Nation at about 9 p.m.

One man, 23-year-old Arley Lagrelle, suffered serious injuries in the altercation and later died in hospital. Two other people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested two suspects in relation to the homicide, one at a residence on the O’Chiese First Nation following a carjacking and standoff, and the other during a traffic stop by Rocky Mountain House RCMP.

Two other people fled the gas station in a vehicle that was later stopped by a spike belt in the Drayton Valley detachment area. The pair, which has not been connected to the homicide, fled from the vehicle on foot, but were later arrested.

Evan Ernest Foureyes, 30, is charged with second-degree murder, assault with a weapon and kidnapping. Foureyes was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing was held last week in Rocky Mountain House. Trial dates have not yet been scheduled.

Jamie Jerome Tyler Whitford, 26, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Those counts were withdrawn in June, however Whitford was sentenced to 34 months in prison, less 10 months spent in custody, on additional counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and for being party to the commission of an offence.
