Provincials next up for several local football teams

Several local football teams are off to provincials this weekend.

The Hunting Hills Lightning, who claimed the city division high school league over the Lacombe Rams by a score of 31-0 Saturday at Great Chief Park, will take on Bert Church (Airdrie) in the Tier II South Regional Semifinals this Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at Great Chief Park.

The H.J. Cody Lakers, who claimed the rural division high school title over Camrose, will battle Holy Rosary High School this Friday in Lloydminster in the Tier III Regional Semifinals.

In the Tier IV Regional Semifinals, the Stettler Wildcats take on the Ardrossan Bisons this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe.

In the 6-man Quarterfinals it will be the Rimbey Spartans going up against the Holy Redeemer Rebels on Saturday at MEGlobal Athletic Park at 5 p.m.

In bantam football provincials, after claiming the Central Alberta Football League Bantam Tier II title over Sylvan Lake, the Stettler Cougars will play Rangeland in the Tier II Semifinals in Medicine Hat at noon on Saturday.

The Notre Dame Jr. Cougars, who won the Tier III bantam league title over Strathmore, head to Lethbridge on Saturday to take on Magrath in provincial semifinals play.

And in pee wee football, the Red Deer Hornets, who claimed the central league title with a 26-12 win Saturday over Strathmore, will battle the Lloydminster Colts for the Tier III provincial title this coming Saturday at noon in Lloydminster.
