Locally written tune to benefit Alberta vets and first responders

Nov 2, 2019 | 8:00 AM

A group of central Alberta songwriters and musicians have partnered with local businesses to release a new song in support of mental health programs for veterans and first responders.

The team of creative forces behind the new single ‘Valour and Pride’ admit they were inspired by the service and sacrifice of veterans and first responders and the unique experience of Canadian military members.

The project was sponsored by Southside Dodge in Red Deer which funded the production and recording of the song.

“I wrote the original song around five years ago after attending our local Remembrance Day ceremonies in Red Deer,” says Tony Sowan, one of two songwriters on the project.

Sowan says veterans’ stories have always moved him emotionally, so when he sat down with his guitar, the words and the melody came to him easily.

The newly recorded song features musicians from different Canadian bands and is described as having an east-coast vibe.

“The current version is the result of a collaborative effort from some very talented local artists,” adds Sowan. “I’m excited for the world to hear it!”

All proceeds from the song’s sales this year will go to the veteran-founded Canadian charity canpraxis.com.

‘Valour and Pride’ is available on Spotify, Google Play and Amazon Music.
