Lacombe pulls the upset!

Lightning, Rams advance to high school football final

The winds of upset blew through Setters Place at Great Chief Park on Monday as the Lacombe Rams knocked off the top-ranked Lindsay Thurber Raiders 27-21 in high school football playoff action.

Remarkably, it was Lacombe’s first win of the season and it came at the exact right time.

The Rams advance to the city division final this Saturday, Nov. 2 where they will take on the defending champion Hunting Hills Lightning, who edged the Notre Dame Cougars 12-7 in Monday’s first semifinal game.

The semifinals were originally to be played on Friday but were postponed due to the 100+ km/h winds that blasted Red Deer. Monday offered little weather relief, however, as teams still had to battle wind along with a dusting of snow on the artificial playing surface.
