Local home sales down 9% in 2019

Local home sales continue to lag behind last year’s pace, according to the latest numbers from the Central Alberta Realtors Association.

Through the end of September, year-to-date home sales are down 9.3% from 2018 with 2,854 MLS sales reported.

September saw 330 residential units sold locally, 2.9% (10 units) less than the same month last year.

Contrarily, residential sales activity in all of Alberta was up 5.5% in September 2019 compared to September 2018.

When it comes to how many homes are being listed, there were 653 new residential listings in September 2019, down 5.9% on a year-over-year basis to the lowest September reading in 13 years.

The dollar value of all home sales in central Alberta in September 2019 was $98.3 million, little changed (-0.2%) from the same month in 2018, while the dollar value of all home sales in Alberta edged up 2.8% compared to September 2018.

Sales of all property types numbered 346 units in September 2019, down 7.5% from September 2018. The total value of all properties sold was $107.5 million, falling 9% from September 2018.
