A stellar goaltending performance from Ethan Anders lifted the Red Deer Rebels to a 5-2 road win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday.

The Pilot Butte, SK native held Lethbridge at bay with 40 saves in front of 3,677 fans at the Enmax Centre to give the Rebels their first win of the season.

Dylan Cozens, fresh off returning to the Hurricanes from the Buffalo Sabres, opened the scoring 6:53 into the first period.

Brett Davis replied for the Rebels less than two minutes with his second goal of the year.

Dawson Barteaux and Josh Tarzwell notched power play goals in the second period to give the Rebels a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Calen Addison scored with 2:33 left in the third period to make it a 3-2 game. But a pair of empty net tallies from Tarzwell to cap off his hat trick and sealed the deal for the Rebels.

Lethbridge outshot Red Deer 42-15 on the night, but the Rebels won the special teams battle going 2-for-2 on the power play while holding the Hurricanes to 0-for-3.

Defenceman Mason Ward, son of former Rebels defenceman Lance Ward, picked up an assist in his WHL debut for Red Deer.

The Rebels are back in action tonight (Saturday) as they host the Calgary Hitmen at the Westerner Park Centrium. Game time is 7 p.m. with the pregame show on 106.7 The Drive starting at 6:30.
