Hunting Hills, Notre Dame win medals at high school golf provincials

A pair of high school teams shot their way to podium finishes at the 2019 ASAA Golf Provincial Championships.

The two-day tournament wrapped up on Tuesday at Innisfail Golf Club (girls) and Alberta Springs (boys).

The Hunting Hills Lightning boys team of Cole Bergheim, Alex Gerrard, Dyson Zukiwsky and Kai Richer finished five shots back of Monsignor McCoy (Medicine Hat) to claim the silver medal.

Individually, Bergheim placed second overall with a two round score of 147, three shots back of Hunter Thomson from Calgary and one shot ahead of Gerrard.

Notre Dame finished sixth in the boys’ team competition (Bridger Atkinson, Denver Smith, Chad Moench and Connor Jacobson).

The Notre Dame Cougars (Tanika Samuels, Megan McCullough, Natalya Watson and Julija Wilson) won silver in the 3A/4A Girls team event with a team score of 552. Strathcona took top spot with a team score of 509 while Catholic Central placed third. Lacombe finished sixth.

Samuels finished 11th in individual competition with a two-round score of 187. McCullough was two spots behind after shooting 191.
