Red Deer man caught after fleeing RCMP in Vegreville

A Red Deer man is facing several charges after being arrested in Vegreville.

RCMP say it was around 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 when they received a complaint of a possible stolen vehicle parked at a local motel.

When they located the vehicle, an adult male attempted to drive away, but the vehicle was stopped by police. A member attempted an arrest, but the man fled the scene on foot before being arrested after a brief foot chase.

The accused was found to be in possession of substances believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Investigators then conducted a search warrant on the room which the male had exited. During the search, they found a loaded .22-calibre rifle. It had been modified, making it prohibited.

Mark Alexander Kennedy, 29, of Red Deer, faces six counts, including two for possession for the purpose of trafficking, and one each for possession of stolen property under $5000, over $5000, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, and failing to comply with release conditions.

Lindsay Dickson, a resident of Two Hills, was also charged.

Kennedy remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Vegreville courtroom on September 23.
