The Grey Cup was in Red Deer on Friday to help raise funds in support of local military families.

“Operation Tea Cup” is an annual event celebrating the deep-rooted connection between the Grey Cup trophy and Canada’s military. It raises funds for the Calgary Military Resource Centre, which has a satellite office in Red Deer.

Friday afternoon saw the CFL’s championship trophy visit the Cormack Armoury, where it was reunited with another trophy donated by Lord Earl Grey that resides at the armoury.

The Governor General’s Cup for general efficience was awarded to field, coastal and siege artillery units that came out on top in skills at arms competitions. It was last awarded in 1921.
