Have your say on proposed transit changes
Starting today, citizens can provide feedback on proposed changes to transit services in Red Deer. Red Deerians are invited to view and provide comments on substantial changes being considered for Red Deer Transit’s routes, services and infrastructure via an online survey or through one of several upcoming open houses.
“We’ve been listening to feedback from our existing customers and the larger community on how to make our transit system even better,” said George Penny, Transit Manager. “Based on their ideas, we’ve developed draft proposals that make routes more direct and frequent and which improve the customer experience at stops and connection points. Now we need residents to have a look at what’s proposed, let us know whether it will work for their needs and how we should refine the ideas further.”
The draft proposals are an outcome of the Transit Network Improvements project, which builds from The City’s Multimodal Transportation Plan and has been comprehensively considering how to improve Red Deer’s transit services. The draft proposals are based on analysis, best practices, and feedback heard when The City has been out meeting with transit staff, customers and citizens this spring and summer.
In addition to longer term plans for the system that show how routes could be restructured and service and infrastructure added to meet Red Deer’s future growth, the draft proposals also show how Red Deer Transit’s existing services and vehicles could be immediately reinvested to offer more direct and frequent service. This includes the introduction of a new Gaetz Avenue Rapid Bus route that would operate the length of that corridor and provide service every 15 minutes at peak times, as well as improved Sunday service.
