Aug 18, 2019 | 7:40 PM

It was a big day in Rocky Mountain House on Sunday as the 2019 Battle of the Rockies wrapped up.

In the chase for the championship, and for the second consecutive year, Dayton Sutherland, driving the Triple J Pipelines outfit, and outriders Brendan Nolin and Rory Gervais, emerged as champions of the 2019 Battle of the Rockies after posting the best 4-day aggregate time of 5:02.04.

That put him 1.82 seconds in front of runner-up Chad Harden, followed closely by John Walters. Chanse Vigen was fourth and Kurt Bensmiller completed the top five overall.

It’s the second career show win for Dayton Sutherland as a chuckwagon driver.

On the day, Chad Harden and his Ja-Co Welding & Consulting Ltd. were tops with a 1:14.93, from barrel number 4 in the second heat. Mark Sutherland was second, with Dayton Sutherland, John Walters and Jason Glass rounding out the top five on the afternoon.

The 2019 WPCA Pro Tour will move to Century Downs Racetrack and Casino just outside of Calgary, Alberta for the season ending Century Downs Word Finals starting on Wednesday.
