Jul 29, 2019 | 4:17 PM

Charges have now been laid in connection to the death of a Rocky Mountain House woman on Friday.

On July 27, RCMP laid charges against 44-year-old Marshall Lawrence Stone of Rocky Mountain House.

Stone has been charged with the murder of Ashley Smith-Ames, and one count of attempted murder of her sister, Alexis Ames.

Mounties say an autopsy was conducted on July 29 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary and confirm the cause of Ames’s death was the result of a gunshot wound.

Police say a judicial interim release hearing has been held, and Stone remains in custody.

His first court appearance is scheduled for July 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the Provincial Court of Alberta in Rocky Mountain House.

It was on July 26 at 7:36 p.m. when Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to several 911 complaints of a male with a gun in a residence.

When Mounties arrived, the male had departed, and police located one deceased adult female and one injured adult female.

RCMP South Major Crimes Unit was deployed to maintain carriage of the homicide investigation.

Mounties say the deceased female was the 28-year-old sister to the injured female. The 29-year-old injured female suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital and later released. Police say there were three children in the residence who were not injured.

A man whom we now know is Marshall Stone later turned himself in to Rocky Mountain House RCMP, with Mounties describing the incident as a domestic situation.

RCMP say further information will not be provided as the matter is now before the courts and to respect the privacy of those involved.
