A mother killed in her Rocky Mountain House home on Friday night is being remembered as someone who would do anything for anyone at any time.

RCMP are investigating the death of 28-year-old Ashley Smith-Ames as a domestic homicide. Her sister was injured in the incident. A 44-year-old man has turned himself into police.

“She was probably one of the best people you would ever meet. She was very caring and giving, a hard working, single mom,” says Jazmin Thomson, who met Smith-Ames in grade six and attended St. Dominic Catholic High School with her.

“She had very strong morals and always had a big smile on her face. She didn’t let too much get her down even when things were tough.”

Thomson, who also employed Smith-Ames at her family’s business for the last decade, says her friend loved her five-year-old son Keegan more than anything.

“She worked full-time in the oil patch and did everything she could to provide for him,” she adds. “He was her entire world. The little guy’s got a tough road ahead of him.”

A trust fund for Keegan is being set up through Scotiabank.
