Agriculture and Forestry Minister Devin Dreeshen, Municipal Affairs Minister Kaycee Madu and officials provide an update Thursday afternoon on the Alberta wildfire situation.

About 10,000 Albertans have been forced from their homes as a result of wildfires raging across the northern part of the province.

Hot temperatures and gusty winds have caused several out-of-control fires to rapidly grow.

The town of High Level and the surrounding communities were evacuated on the Victoria Day weekend, and evacuation orders were issued for some smaller communities since Wednesday.

Residents of Slave Lake have been told to be prepared to leave with eight hours’ notice because of a blaze burning about 30 kilometres away.
